Dental implants are metal (usually titanium) posts that are surgically positioned into the jawbone. Over a period of about six months, they integrate themselves onto the bone, and are then ready to have artificial replacement teeth mounted onto them.
Complete Family Dentistry, servicing the greater Madison WI, Monona and Sun Prairie areas, are specialists in cosmetic dentistry. If you have missing teeth, or are unhappy with your existing conventional dentures or bridge, dental implants are definitely worth considering.
Are Dental Implants Right for You?
If you want to:
- Support an existing bridge or denture
- Replace missing teeth
- Support facial muscles
- Relieve jaw pain or bite problems
- Help speech and aid digestion (with better chewing)
Then the answer is a resounding yes!
What Does this Involve?
The complete implant procedure takes place during several visits over the course of a few months.
Your jaw and teeth will be X-rayed, and molds taken to check bone density, the depth of your gum tissue and how much space we have to work with. The implant, or post, is inserted under local anesthetic and left to heal and assimilate itself into your jawbone.
The artificial tooth (or teeth) is then made to fit your specific implant(s). This can take several visits to ensure a perfect and comfortable fit. The final stage is to attach the artificial teeth to the implants. Patients are always delighted with how secure, stable and comfortable their new teeth are!
To help ensure the longevity of your implant, you will be shown how to develop good oral hygiene habits and encouraged to visit your dentist regularly for checkups.
